Thanks Kartika! Good luck with your writing. I subscribed. One suggestion--turn on the paid option unless money isn't an issue. Don't worry about pledges. You may be leaving money on the table. You might also like my substack Deep Midwest: Politics and Culture. https://rleonard.substack.com/ That note you shared by Gloria Horton-Young is chilling. I'm going to repost as well. Nice to "meet" you.
Missing things: Monarch Butterflies are now on the endangered species list
Meadow Larks are in decline, only 2 million currently (Monarchs were in decline a few years ago)
whipper-wills, I haven't heard even one in years.
Bob-o-links are gone, cow birds are gone. Quail have all but disapeared.
Over three months of going down to the Maquoketa River every night but Monday nights for three years, never got so much as a misquito bite. I clear the dumpster of recycled cans and bottles as the last of the canoes come in, many times I am there till 8 in the evening. This passed year, with all my road walks and dumpster diving, I have contributed over 2,000 bucks to causes and things needed in my community including a program for Latinos basic health checks and ESL classes. More to come!!!! No hand wringing here, if you want change, get off your ass and do something!!!!!!
Thank you! I am so happy to have found your channel! π I live in Iowa and we need your voices!
I'm so happy you found us too! Also, thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! Thank you for your support and suggestion to turn on the paid option.
